Bibles and prayer books for Easter baskets
There are some good options for baptism gifts here, too! Plus, a tip to keep little ones busy on sick and rainy days.
In our house, every holiday is an opportunity to gift books, and Easter is no exception. While I strive to buy books that point my children to God all year long, Easter is an obvious opportunity to do so! Below are three books I’ve included in my children’s Easter baskets in the past and one I’m giving them this year.
Recipe: Slow cooker pork carnitas (We use this recipe for pulled pork sandwiches—just add BBQ sauce—tacos, quesadillas and more. It’s very versatile!)
Easy way to be a fun mom: Keep some crafts on hand so you always have a few ready to go for a rainy afternoon or sick day. I love these from Target, and Hobby Lobby always has a lot to choose from, too.
Fun read: “How to let children be children: 6 ways to encourage a childlike spirit at home”
“Thank You, Lord” written by Augustine Gadient, illustrated by Hengjing Zang
This sweet board book is a beautiful way to begin teaching children about the wonderful gifts God provides for us each day. There are small flaps simply for delight, and the illustrations are bright and fun. My kids loved bringing this one to mass with us on Sundays.

Recommended age: baby - 4 years
“Baby’s First Bible Stories” written by Rachel Elliot, illustrated by Caroline Williams
This book was in my son’s Easter basket last year, and we’ve read it a lot since then! Several important Bible stories are included, and each is condensed to a paragraph or two. This book has been a nice introduction to the primary stories (e.g. Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath, Jonah and the whale, the miracle of the loaves and fishes, etc.).

Recommended age: baby - 4 years
“The Beautiful Story of the Bible” illustrated by Maïte Roche
I’ve been on the hunt for a children’s Bible that thoroughly told the stories in a way that’s appropriate for preschoolers. This has been more difficult than I expected! Most Bibles are either too simplistic or too advanced, but “The Beautiful Story of the Bible” is spot on. I love the size (9” x 10”), and the illustrations are extremely engaging. I’m including this one in my children’s basket this year!

Recommended age: 4 - 8 years
“Good Night, God” written by Ginger Swift, illustrated by Daniela Sosa
This sweet board book is the perfect bedtime read. It has helped inspire my little ones’ bedtime prayers, and even though we’ve read it regularly since their babyhood, my little ones still love grabbing this one off the shelf. The illustrations are sweet, and the flaps are fun.

Recommended age: baby - 3 years

“One day at a time. This is very important. Very often we exhaust ourselves going over the past again and again and also our fears about the future. But when we live in the present moment, we mysteriously find strength. We have the grace to live through what we encounter today. If tomorrow we must face more difficult situations, God will increase His grace. God’s grace is given at the right time for it, day by day.”

Kristin, these selections are wonderful. I do agree with you regarding finding a Bible. Love this one you are recommending, beautiful illustrations and the stories are well written. That's a keeper. Thanks and Happy Easter!
