Not-so-spooky Halloween books
If you enjoy a good costume, pumpkin-spice everything and absolutely nothing that's scary, here are your kids’ Halloween book recommendations!
Happy October! I wanted to share Halloween books early so that you can track them down before the big day. I don’t do spooky (only smiling pumpkins around here, thank you very much), so here is a round-up of three very happy, not haunting Halloween books:
“Ten Little Pumpkins” by Make Believe Ideas
This sweet little rhyme follows 10 pumpkins as they disperse from the patch on Halloween. Pumpkins with hair bows and giggling produce? My kind of Halloween book. :)

“Little Blue Truck’s Halloween” by Alice Schertle
Little Blue Truck and the gang get dressed up and go to a Halloween party, but you have to figure out who is who along the way!

“It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse!” by Laura Numeroff
I initially bought this book as a last-minute addition for a Halloween boo basket (plus a second copy for my little guy), and both babies loved it. It is very simple—Mouse has seven pumpkins to decorate, and he paints a different expression on each one. But in its simplicity, it introduces counting, emotions, and the concept of associating pumpkins with Halloween. This is most appropriate for ages 2 and under, but depending on the child, older kids may be charmed by it, too.

Fun read:
This might be more of a sobering read than a fun one, but if you care about instilling a love of reading in children (which you clearly do, if you are reading this newsletter), than it’s worth your time:
