Books for apple-picking season
Take a trip around the world, watch an apple tree grow through the seasons, and follow along on adorable characters' misadventures as apple-picking season hits full swing.
“How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World” by Marjorie Priceman
This is the type of fun, whimsical children’s book I absolutely adore. If you run out of ingredients to make an apple pie and the store is closed, simply hop a boat to Europe for a chicken from France (for eggs) and a cow from England (for milk). Then head to Sri Lanka to grab some bark of the native kurundu tree (for cinnamon), and then take a jaunt to Jamaica for sugar. Just make sure to get everything home before it spoils!
This book is too advanced for my two year old, so I would recommend this one for ages four and up.
“The Apple Pie Tree” by Zoe Hall
This is the sweet story of two little girls watching apples on their apple tree (and its robin inhabitants) grow throughout the seasons—and it ends with pie! The story is simple, yet engaging. Both my two and four year old love it.
“Hungry Bunny” by Claudia Rueda
I previously mentioned “Hungry Bunny” as one of my favorite interactive children’s books, and this charming read is perfect for apple-picking season. A hungry bunny tries to pick some apples and get them home to his mom so she can make apple pie, but he has all kinds of misadventures along the way. This one will get your littles giggling for sure.
“If You Give a Dog a Donut” by Laura Numeroff
“If you give a dog a donut, he’ll want some apple juice to go with it.” But he’ll drink it all, so he’ll want to pick apples from the tree in your backyard to make more. One thing will lead to another, and before you know it, you are playing baseball, going on a treasure hunt, building a kite and getting wrapped up in even more hilarious shenanigans.
While apple picking isn’t the book’s primary focus, it does kickstart all the fun. And my kids LOVE all the books in the “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” series so much that I would be remiss if I didn’t include them in these round-ups now and then. :) (We’ve read this one so much, in fact, that the book jacket has fallen apart, which is why I had to take a picture of the title page!)

Fun read:
“Living inside a movie” or, how to make your home feel like it’s from a Nancy Meyers film.
“Focus more on who your child is than what your child does. Remember, you’re growing a person, not fixing a problem.” — L.R. Knost
These are all new to me and they all look so cute! Have you read Arnold’s Apple Tree? I really like that one; it goes through all the seasons with the apple tree.
The apple pie tree is an ADORABLE book I forgot about! Thanks for sharing! 🍎♥️
